Celebrating the release of three great new CDs on the Diatribe and Tzadik labels:
Isabelle O’Connell - piano: RESERVOIR (Diatribe)
Simon Jermyn - guitar: HYMNI (Diatribe)
Ned Rothenberg & MIVOS Quartet: Clarinet Quintet (Tzadik)
Dublin-born and New York-based pianist Isabelle O’Connell, celebrates the release of her debut solo CD, RESERVOIR. Called a “lioness of the keys” by the West Allegemeine Zeitung, Isabelle brings effortless virtuosity and innate lyricism to repertoire in all genres. RESERVOIR brings together contemporary piano works by nine Iiving Irish composers, including the title composition by Donnacha Dennehy, a leading light of the younger generation. Varying widely in style, these works attest to the striking vitality of Ireland’s new music scene.
Since her critically acclaimed Carnegie Hall debut at Weill Recital Hall in 2002, Isabelle O’Connell has performed as soloist and chamber musician in the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Italy, U.K. and Ireland. A dynamic interpreter and energetic advocate of music by living composers, she regularly commissions and premieres new works. In 2007, Isabelle was co-Artistic Director of “New Music, New Ireland, New York,” a concert that showcased contemporary Irish composers at Weill Recital Hall. As an ensemble musician, Isabelle has toured with Alarm Will Sound and Ireland’s CRASH ensemble, and has performed with John Adams at Carnegie's Zankel Hall, Meredith Monk at the Bang on a Can Summer Festival, and the New Zealand String Quartet at Banff in Canada. Isabelle has appeared on television and radio on both sides of the Atlantic, with performances broadcast on WQXR, WFMT Chicago, BBC3, RTE, TV3 and Lyric FM.

Formed in 2008, MIVOS is a string quartet consisting of violinists Olivia De Prato and Joshua Modney, violist Victor Lowrie, and cellist Isabel Castellvi. Since the quartet's inception they have performed and closely collaborated with an ever-expanding cadre of international composers, including Anna Clyne, Luke DuBois, Wayne Horvitz, Wolfgang Rihm and Huang Ruo. Improvisation is also an integral part of their performances, and has led to collaborations with artists such as Ned Rothenberg, Chris Speed and Mark Feldman. MIVOS’s performance of Ned Rothenberg’s Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, recently released on John Zorn’s Tzadik label, was “played with spontaneity and dexterity” (The Strad). www.mivosquartet.com
